My title and identity comes from him and him only. I am second a husband to the most amazing woman on this earth. I am third the loving father to three wonderful babies.  I am also a lover of anything organizational and systematic.

I have twice been a youth pastor in two local churches in the East Texas area. Before I was a youth pastor I was a state certified detention and community service officer. I loved working with 10-17 year students that was in the juvenile system.

If you were to ask the Word of God to find a place in the Word of God what the Word of God came to do he would flip to Isaiah 61 and read a short set of scriptures that changed the world forever. We find in Luke 4:18-19 two scriptures that tells this story that has burdened my heart since the first time I ever stopped to read it. It says

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

I love the way that Eugene H. Peterson in the Message states this passage
God’s Spirit is on me;
he’s chosen me to preach the Message of good news to the poor,
Sent me to announce pardon to prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind,
To set the burdened and battered free, to announce, “This is God’s year to act!”.

In my short 34 years of life I have spent a lot of time people watching. The thing that I have noticed is that no matter what your status in life is, no matter your level of income, education, or influence you will find people who are spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically poor, brokenhearted, captive, blind and oppressed. Forever until the day Jesus comes back will this be human conditions. Jesus says himself that he came to preach, proclaim, heal, and deliver people in those conditions.

If you were to ask my wife and myself what our life message is all about it would simply be to Preach, Proclaim, Heal, and Deliver people who are Poor, Brokenhearted, Captive, Blind and Oppressed through the power, glory, and anointing of Jesus Christ, that is it.

We ourselves at different times have felt and been captured by these things. That is why we have such a burden for those who are far way from a relationship with Jesus and those who are close to him. Please don’t think that just because you are a christian that you do not suffer from any of these conditions.

My prayer for you today is to ask God am I Poor, Brokenhearted, Captive, Blind and Oppressed to anything or by anyone. If you are I pray that you will quickly ask God to deliver you through His power and connect to a local body to help you walk out your new freedom. One word from the Lord, one vision, one experience from him can free you when years of mans best efforts could not.

If God has given you freedom from any of these things I pray you will look up and find people around who are in the same position you were in and help them find the same freedom that you have now. Let our love be shown not only by words but by our actions.
Simply put this is how the gospel is spread and moved through our community. Please proactively go after those who need our help.
What have you been bound to in your past and how has Jesus helped bring freedom to your life?
